Innovation Winner

Advanced and affordable agricultural and horticultural spray systems that optimize spray applications.

OVERVIEW

Developed by USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Application Technology Research Unit (ATRU) with competitive funds from USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture through the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (Washington, D.C.), the Intelligent Spray System has ten years of research and field-testing that shows it increases precision and accuracy, while reducing pesticide use when chemicals are applied. Studies at USDA ARS ATRU, The Ohio State University, Oregon State University and the University of Tennessee show a reduction in pesticide use by 47-73 percent with comparable insect control efficiency and equal or better disease control.

Intelligent Spray System

Reduces Chemical Use.

  • 47-73% reduction of spray consumption

  • 40-87% reduction in spray loss beyond tree canopies

  • Up to 87% less airborne drift

  • 68-93% reduction in spray loss on the ground

  • Equal or better crop protection

The Intelligent Spray System

...detects unique crop architecture and makes management decisions based on height, width, spacing, and density of each plant or tree. Available as a kit, it can be added to almost any existing airblast sprayer. Our intelligent sprayers empower growers with consistent application and in most cases, considerable pesticide savings.

ADD-ONS

“We have saved at least 40 to 60 percent, depending on the time of the year, of our chemical costs. The pest control has been just as good, if not better. The air assist on that sprayer really delivers the chemical right where you want it. It’s amazing, the technology.”
